Why We Crave Foods That Are Unhealthy For Us

I changed my diet radically to lose about 30 pounds and help my Diabetic condition. I drastically reduced wheat and dairy and dramatically increased my raw food intake to about 75%. I discovered that my desire for comfort food radically decreased. I could look at Pizza, French Fries, White Bread, Ice Cream for the first time without the deep craving I had previously experienced. I found this phenomenon fascinating.
While I was sitting at a Chiropractic seminar, I was discussing this and came up with an interesting metabolic theory. I believe that the body (including the mind) naturally and normally craves nutrients that it is lacking. I believe the craving is proprtional to the deficiency. When we crave fatty food that is unhealthy, I believe it is because we are craving healthy oils/fats which we aren’t getting in our diet. I believe that the biochemical similarity is significant enough to confuse us into thinking that we are fulfilling a nutritional need when we are in fact sabotaging our health when we eat unhealthy fats, oils, protein, and carbohydrates. In addition, the unhealthy fats and oils are difficult to process, affecting the digestive system and creating health issues of a sweeping and dramatic nature. When we eat healthy foods, our nutritional needs are fulfilled, hence extinguishing our craving of toxic foods.
